Stability Domain Analysis and Enhancement of Squirrel Cage Induction Generator Wind Turbines in Weak Grids

There are significant concerns regarding the stability of increased wind power generation in weak grids. This paper investigates and improves Wind Turbine Squirrel Cage Induction Generators (WT-SCIGs) with series compensation interconnections to grid. Detailed time-domain state-space modeling have revealed new bifurcations oscillatory modes for a WT-SCIG connected radially grid through compensated line. The domain analyses carried out by computing system analyzing eigenvalues linearized system. demonstrate first time how degree at which Hopf bifurcation occurs depends on X/R ratio line, operating slip induction generator, voltage regulator parameters as well delays measurements. A damping controller is proposed, greatly dynamic eliminates destructive grids wide range compensation. allows much larger percentage than what usually possible, while avoiding instabilities, thereby maximizing transfer capability.
